The plot of the game takes us to the world of the Storm, slowly leaning towards collapse as a result of the action of mysterious dark forces. Civilisation has been captured by the evil master of darkness, who has just launched an attack on the castle, which is the last bastion of goodness in the world. Only one daredevil, the player, can stop the inevitable catastrophe - he will be teleported into the very heart of the occupied and devastated land to confront the servants of the dark ruler and put an end to his reign.
Anvil of Dawn is a classic cRPG game with a view from the eyes of the hero. The action takes place mainly in dungeons and undergrounds, although we will also have to investigate castles and shipwrecks. Unlike previous productions of DreamForge Entertainment, we don't control the whole team of four, but only one daredevil. The game itself focuses much more on elements of the action, supplemented by occasional logical puzzles that usually boil down to finding a key or switch.
We choose our character from 5 available heroes: two men, two women and one lizard. The choice made will have an impact not only on the course of the game and specific features of the character, but also on one of several possible game ends. During the game we will of course develop our hero's abilities and improve his magical skills. However, the authors resigned from the classic system of experience points. The development of particular features and spells depends strictly on the frequency and effectiveness of their application.
Anvil of Dawn uses proven methods of control and combat, as well as the auto-map option already introduced in Ravenloft. In terms of binding, the game presents itself correctly, although the graphic engine used by the creators seems to be a bit outdated. This impression is compensated for by high-quality prerendered cut-scenes and digitised dialogues on a CD-ROM.
